Justice Peter Barr said: The violence is disturbing. It makes residents of this town afraid to leave their homes at night. He said Central Australians did not feel free to enjoy the town they lived in and community morale was down. The judge made the comments as he sentenced convicted Stavros Martin, 22, to a fouryear prison sentence with a non-parole period of two years. Martin was one of at least eight people who attacked Aaron Fillmore in January 2010. The butcher was surrounded by the group who tried to rob him before hitting him up to 15 times. Justice Barr said Mr Fillmore left Alice Springs after the attack. The Supreme Court heard the victim thought he was going to die. I was punched, kicked, hit with weapons and was too scared to even feel pain, he said in his victim impact statement. That fear has never really gone away. Justice Barr said offending of this kind increased tension between Aboriginal and nonAboriginal people. The Arafura Dragons hard at work yesterday. Senator Trish Crossin was there watching the first race with the new dragon boat fleet which had been bought with $37,000 of federal government funding. WWII heritage push WORLD War II structures in Darwin have been nominated for heritage listing. There are two at the Winnellie Showgrounds, and several World War II observation posts at Casuarina Coastal Reserve. Heritage Advisory Council chairman Dr Brian Reid said the Bellman Aircraft Hangar, known as the Commercial Hall at the Showgrounds, was one of only two remaining of its kind in the Territory. Dr Reid said the nearby Sidney Williams Hut, used now as a workshop, was built in 1941 and housed the largest concentration of military personnel in the Top End during WWII.
