Coroner Elizabeth Morris heard evidence of 14 serious dingo attacks on humans, three of them fatal. Barrister ReX' Wild QC said the evidence was "sufficient" to reach a fmal conclusion about the baby's death. " You can go no further than to fmd that Azaria was taken by a dingo," he said. The Chamberlains' lawyer; Stuart Tipple, said there had always been two theories about l).ow the girl died that she was murdered by her mother or taken by a dingo. "You can competently fmd that the murder theory is preposterous," he said. Lindy ChamberlainCreighton has always maintained that she saw a dingo take Azaria from a tent at Uluru on August 17, 1980. In 0 You can go no fl,.lrther than to find that Azaria was taken by a dingo turned an "open" fmding- in 1995. She said there were 239 attacks in Queensland alone. Mr Wild, the counsel assisting the coroner, said the new evidence proved that dingoes were capable of killing children - material that may not have been available in the 1980s. He also said the legal test had never been to prove that a dingo was guilty of killing Azaria but rather whether the Chamberlains were complicit in her death. "That's a different situation that you have been asked to embark upon today by the Chamberlain family," he told the fourth coronial inquest in Darwin. 01 Mr Tipple said the court should now be "compelled" to fmd in favour of the dingo theory. Coronial investigator Anne Lade compileq a report detailing dingo attacks since the last inquest - which re Ms Morris said she needed time to consider the material and would hand down her fmdings later.
