Lyons ward alderman and Gardens Park Golf Links leasee Rodger Dee, 57, said he would not nominate for the March 24 council election. I asked myself if I wanted to do another four years and I didnt, he said. I didnt make this decision easily. Mr Dees company, Perry Park, holds the lease for the nine-hole, council-owned golf course until 2020, with the option to extend for another 15 years. The deal caused controversy when it was struck while the council held a confidential meeting without him being present. Mr Dee also has been lobbying for lighted night golf at the course since 2000. He said he hoped someone with a business background will stand for his council seat. I stood for the battlers and the tourism industry, and helped tourism into the town. He said anyone nominating for alderman needs a good positive attitude. Dont be afraid to make decisions you think are right. Difficult decision need to be made all the time. Youre always blueing with aldermen but you respect each other. Rebecca Want de Rowe is running for Alderman in Darwins Richardson ward Picture: KATRINA BRIDGEFORD IR campaigner to stand for council By CONOR BYRNE THE woman who spearheaded the Territory campaign against John Howards WorkChoices is to stand for Darwin council. Former union organiser Rebecca Want de Rowe, 28, said she would fight for a freeze on allowances for aldermen, a dog park in Darwin and an end to weekend city car parking charges. She has nominated for Richardson ward. One of the ward aldermen, John Bailey, is retiring. The other two councillors, Garry Lambert and Jo Sangster, will run again and also probably stand for the CLP in the Territ ory election. If they win both polls, they will quit the council, sparking a double by-election. Ms Want de Rowe is a member of the Labor Party and is an electorate officer for Labor Nightcliff MLA Jane Aagaard. But she has one thing in common with Ms Sangster neither is a fan of the CLPs Dave Tollner, who boasted of helping put together WorkChoices when a federal MP. Im running as myself, not for the Labor Party, Ms Want de Rowe said. Going for council or heard a rumour? Email byrnec@ntnews. com.au
