Season starts TENNIS Warren Thomson THERE was no sign of rust shown at Tennis Alice Springs on Tuesday night with the towns best tennis players putting on a quality start to the A grade season. With last seasons c h a m p i o n L u k e Horsfall on the sidelines for a week, it gave the other local players an opportunity to impress. Matt Campbell put in a fantastic effort to come back from an 8-6 deficit to beat Andrew Schofield in a 9-8, to give his team a m u c h - n e e d e d boost. But Campbell and partner Alexander Gee narrowly lost the doubles. Gee played really well despite losing to talented improver Jake Johan 9-7 and showed some good signs, especially on the forehand side. In other key singles matches , Heath Cook defeated Gus Matarazzo 9-5, Matthew Ansell scored a 9-5 win against Ly T r a n a n d N i c k Whyte won five games straight to beat Doug McClure 9-4 in a high quality affair. Its the best A grade the club has had in years Roberts said there will be added incentives for senior players this year with opportunities to travel to some major open tournaments.
