Department of Construction and Infrastructure Annual Report 2010-2011 50 Performance Reporting EAST ARNHEM PROJECTS Upgrade Remote Education FacilitiesGove Hospital Transitional Accommodation Project Description: To build six, two bed transitional accommodation units for hospital staff. Current accommodation is not appropriate and the project aims to attract and retain doctors and hospital staff in the region. Completion date: The tender was awarded in early 2011 and the project is underway, having commenced in May 2011. Works were delayed for eight weeks due to the wet season and completion is scheduled for November 2011. Achievements secured land for facility on track to achieve revised timeframe and budget project awarded to local contractor instigating local employment all construction undertaken in the dry season Challenges wet season has impacted on project commencement sourcing approvals for construction and extensive consultation with Rio Tinto and all local corporations Project Description: 1. Upgrade classrooms and teacher overnight facilities at Ji-marda, Wurdeja and Mumeka. 2. Design and construct two brand new classroom and teacher overnight facilities in the East Arnhem Region. DCI has been working closely with the Department of Education and Training to procure these projects over the past year. Completion dates: The upgrades to Ji-marda, Wurdeja and Mumeka were completed in June 2011. The design and construct of two new classroom and teacher facilities in East Arnhem commenced in June 2011. Achievements completed upgrades ahead of schedule new classroom and teacher facilities on budget each facility achieved the scope of the provision of solar power allowing access to technology in the NTG education network Challenges land release of the two new facilities integrating technology into the existing infrastructure wettest season on record only four months access in the year closing of classrooms for upgrade construction period
