Department of Construction and Infrastructure Annual Report 2010-2011 58 Performance Reporting Alice Springs Accommodation (Ampere Mwerre) Park $8.4M Western MacDonnell Visitors Centre $1.6M Project Description: To provide secure short term temporary accommodation for up to 150 visitors to Alice Springs, using traditionally constructed cabin accommodation and specially designed tent style units. Completion Date: Delivery commenced from April 2010 with the Certificate of Occupancy being issued April 2011. Achievements supplied and installed various types of alternate accommodation project completed within revised timeframe and budget multiple contracts to ensure delivery to clients needs Challenges significant variations requested at 30% of construction unprecedented rain falls halting some works extremely tight timeframes a first in the NT for the style of accommodation facility Project Description: Design and construct new Visitors Centre and retail premises at Alice Springs Desert Park. Completion Date: The Visitors Centre was officially opened to the public on the 18th of March 2011. Achievements delivered project to original brief and agreed scope on time and to budget provided state of the art Visitors Centre housed in an iconic building project very well received by client and visitors positive feedback received from the builder Challenges pressure to complete the project before the beginning of the tourist season construction took place while the park was open to visitors various modifications to design during construction stage relocation of existing facilities into the new building without interrupting regular park activities
