South Africa powered to 2-107 at lunch, thanks to 43 from 33 balls by Jacques Kallis. But Peter Siddle broke through just after lunch, getting the wick et of Kallis, caught by Usman Khawaja for 54. Quick Ryan Harris missed out with a hip problem, allowing Patrick Cummins to debut and the teenager (1-25 from 12) got his first Test wicket, the prized scalp of Hashim Amla for 19, to see the Proteas at 4-129. Earlier, Shane Watson left the field with a strained hamstring. Houlihan joins Fev FORMER Carlton teammates Ryan Houlihan and Brendan Fevola will reunite in Waratahs colours at Norbuilt Oval on Sunday. The two ex-Blues have not played together since the 2009 AFL elimination final. Unfortunately it resulted in a loss when Brisbane came from five goals down to win by seven points. Houlihan, 29, will play his first game in red and white and Fevola his third, after kicking bags of eight and nine goals against Wanderers and Palmerston. Ill play this one for now and see if I enjoy it, Houlihan said. Ive loved my time here, so Im sure Ill be back though I dont know exactly how many more Ill play. Houlihan joined a chorus calling for Fevola to be added to the AFL draft list. Everyone knows Fev has got the talent, we all saw it here last week, he said. Its good to see hes got his life back on track and hopefully he gets another chance, Im sure he will. Tahs coach Heath Culpitt intends starting Houlihan at the centre bounce instead of in front of goals. Hoops (Houlihan) will start right in the guts next to me and Mitch Sandery, Culpitt said. A good player like that you dont want down deep in the forward line, hes got to be where the action is. We definitely want to qualify him for the finals but hes in requirement mode with his footy and might have other priorities right now. Ryan played over 200 games for Carlton, so its special for me to have him playing and for Brendan to have his old teammate alongside him again. They probably thought theyd never play together again. The Americans led 4-2 after a dramatic opening day when the glassy greens at Royal Melbourne made life very difficult, particularly for those unfamiliar with the sandbelt. But the big talking point was the match pitting Scott and Choi against Americans Woods and Steve Stricker who had won all four of their pairs encounters together at the 2009 Presidents Cup. It was all over by the 12th green, with the 7 and 6 victory by Scott and Choi the equal biggest in Cup history. It felt great to get a point in the first match under the belt, said Scott, who has willingly taken on a leadership role in Greg Normans International team. Its a very big deal for me, as it is for the other Aussies. I was very nervous going out there but I played great, as did KJ. For former world No. 1 Woods it was his worst ever loss at a Presidents Cup, coming in the foursomes format that he has traditionally dominated. Woods and Stricker were the only one of the 12 pairings not to win a single hole yesterday, although their heavy loss was more than offset by their 10 teammates, who won three of the other five matches and halved the remaining two. The best half-point came from Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar, who won the last two holes of their clash with the Australian young guns Aaron Baddeley and Jason Day. Baddeley was particularly disappointed at missing a par putt on the 17th hole and then badly mis-hitting his drive on the 18th. Another of the five Australians in Greg Normans lineup, Geoff Ogilvy, paired with South African and US Masters champion Charl Schwartzel to share the honours with Bill Haas and Nick Watney in a match where the Americans never held the outright lead. The US were convincing winners of the other three clashes. Phil Mickelson became the record Presidents Cup points scorer with 21 after combining with Jim Furyk for a 4 and 3 win over South African Retief Goosen and Australian Robert Allenby one of Greg Normans two captains picks. US captain Fred Couples has split the Woods-Stricker pairing for todays fourballs, when the weather is expected to take a turn for the worse.
