Odds on Sport Get on anywhere! HISTORY REPEATS FOR RAWIRI Page 49 Shock ban riles Buffs FOOTBALL ByGREYMORRIS Well be looking at all of our options and taking it upwith theAFLNT. This is unheard of THE Buffaloes are in shock after a three-week ban handed down to rover Charlie McAdam was sensationally increased to 12 weeks at the NTFL Tribunal. The club says it will investigate the legalities of Wednesdays decision to increase the three-match prescribed penalty for behaving in an abusive, insulting and threatening manner towards an umpire to 12 weeks. Darwin challenged the prescribed penalty with a view to having it cancelled out. The wording of the charge was changed to deliberately threatening an umpire before the 12-week ban was enforced. It means McAdams 2011-12 season with Darwin is over. Buffalo president John Paterson wants to know what criteria was used by the three-person tribunal to increase the penalty by 300 per cent. What was more significant and factual the second time that led them to increase it by so much? he said. Well be looking at all of our op tions and taking it up with the AFLNT. This is unheard of. But AFLNT football operations manager Anthony Venes said any decision by the tribunal was completely independent of the league. Obviously, Darwin want to appeal it because they reckon its too harsh. But they will need new evidence to be able to do that, he said. Ive told Darwin to send me an email stating their intention to appeal on the grounds of whatever they propose. My plan then would be to put it to the tribunal commissioner and ask if anything can be done. McAdams teammate Liam Philpott will miss the next two matches after he challenged a one-mach ban for striking. The 201-game AFL player will don the red and white against Southern Districts on Sunday. Report page 50 Blue on board
