RESEARCH AT THE LOWITJA INSTITUTE Work is well underway on a number of projects, including: Expanding Our Tools to Close the Gap: Towards Indigenous Genomic Health Research. This project commenced earlier in the year and will be completed in December 2011. Dr Emma Kowal is the Project Leader and The University of Melbourne is the administering organisation. Planning Implementation and Effectiveness(PIE) in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Policy Reform. The project will be completed in June 2013 and Margaret Kelaher is the Project Leader, with The University of Melbourne as the administrator. The Funding, Accountability and Results for Aboriginal Health Services (FAR) project is also underway after completing a quality assurance process with a workshop attended by key stakeholders such as AMSANT and OATSIH NT, Queensland Health and QAIHC, and federal government representatives. Policy analysis and establishment tasks are the current priority. Six documents have been published outlining results from stage 1 of the Managing Two Worlds Together (please see under PUBLICATIONS AT THE LOWITJA INSTITUTE below for more details). This project aims to add to existing knowledge of what works well and what needs improvement in the system of care for Aboriginal patients from rural and remote areas of South Australia (and parts of the Northern Territory). It explores their complex patient journeys and what happens when they come to Adelaide for hospital care. Stage 1 focuses on the problems and stage 2 will focus on solutions and will consist of a small set of action research projects. Preparations continue for the Lowitja Institute conference 2012 National Conference on CQI In Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care CQI For Everyday And Everybody to be held in the Alice Springs Convention Centre on 1415th May 2012.
