John Payne comes to the position with more than 30 years of experience in the business. Hailing from Bordertown in South Australia, John had owned a Case and Toyota dealership there since 1981 before selling in February. No stranger to the Top End, John made the move to Katherine with his wife Tanya a couple of months ago after being offered the sales manager job specifically looking after the Case IH range of machinery by his friend, the late Allen Carter. My wife and I love this part of the country and in the end, when Allen offered me the job, we decided the time was right to make the move, John said. John will be looking after sales for Case IH, Fuso trucks and Croplands sprayers. Topend Ag has the distribution rights for Case IH products for the whole of the Northern Territory and the Kununurra region. I will be looking to take a very proactive approach to customer service, John said. He is happy to go out to customers and demonstrate products if needed and John says Topend Ag intends to carry a cross-section of the vast range of Case tractors. A keen golfer, John said he will be available to be contacted any time of the day, with the possible exception of when he is on the tee. Topend Ag is at 441 Victoria Highway, in the Katherine Toyota business complex. To contact John about any of the Topend Ag products, call (08) 8974 0000. Ownpart of the fleet By MARK HINCHLIFFE Land Rovers delivered to Defence have around 40,000km on the clock when auctioned MILITARY vehicle collectors, off-roaders, farmers and bargain hunters should prepare for one of the biggest auctions of Defence vehicles in recent years. The Defence Department is auctioning hundreds of vehicles and trailers through Manheim online and at eight locations around the country in October. Manheim spokesman Mathew McAuley says they include 45 Land Rover TD5 Defenders, 200 cargo trailers of various load capacities, 90 motorbikes and 65 all-terrain bikes. Defence is reducing the size of its fleet, so its a fleet reduction program rather than the vehicles meeting any criteria for disposal, he says. The Land Rovers were de livered to Defence between 2004 and 2006 and most have around 40,000km on the clock. I dont know specifically about the ages of the bikes or trailers. He said it was the biggest auction of military vehicles for the past few years. I think the Defenders will attract the most bids, he says. It should appeal to military vehicle collectors as well as people wanting a bargain, off-road enthusiasts and farmers. Auction dates are: Sydney, October 4 and 19; Adelaide, October 11; Brisbane October 11 and 12; Hobart, October 13; Perth, October 18 and 25, Townsville, October 20; Melbourne, October 27; and Darwin, October 26.
