And police want to hear from anyone who has been offered cheap car parts to contact them. Acting Sergeant Janelle Snigg said: Businesses in the area had been alerted. Alice scoops pool of police recruits NINE new police recruits have been assigned to Alice Springs from a group of 20 who graduated from the academy yesterday. The town scored more new police than any other area in the Northern Territory. Darwin got one recruit, Tennant Creek three, Palmerston two and Katherine nine. Police Minister Paul Henderson said the intake was a milestone in NT policing. He said: Since 2001, we have accelerated the number of sworn police on our streets, delivering an incredible 33 police squads and 287 extra police officers at the rank of constable or above. On top of that we now have 20 extra Aboriginal Community Police Officers and 27 auxiliaries. The result is a Territory Police Force of 1257 police, auxiliaries and Aboriginal Community Police officers. This is twice as many police per head of population than the Australian average. This government is overseeing significant growth in recruitment efforts and we will continue to employ more police to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.
