It is unclear why there is a marked increase in gonococcal notifications from 1997 to 1998. The high numbers seen in the above quarter of 1997 as compared to that of 1998 are similar to those seen in the same quarter in 1995 and show the yearly variations observed in the NT with the cause being, uncertain. This is the third consecutive quarter to show a decrease in invasive pneumococcal disease. NOTIFIED CASES OF VACCINE PREVENTABLE DISEASES IN THE NT
