The 25 participants will undergo 15 weeks of preemployment training ending with a Certificate I in Introductory Vocational Education. They will then go on to complete a Certificate III in Civil Construction while working for Maiden Civil. The Minister for Indigenous Employment, Mr Mark Arbib, said: This project will ensure local indigenous Australians are represented in the Barkly Shire construction industry and pro vided with long term job opportunities. The Member for Lingiari, Mr Warren Snowdon, said the government has committed more than $180,000 for the project under its Indigenous Employment Program. He said: I congratulate Maiden Civil on committing to employ all the participants who successfully complete their training and for joining the Gillard Government in a bid to close the gap in indigenous employment. This project is particularly important because it will provide a great opportunity for local indigenous job seekers in Tennant Creek. The government has committed another $650 million to the program.
