Aside from a top deck upgrade several years ago, the deep-V hull remains unchanged and is a time-proven performer. Consumers have come to expect nothing less from Haines Hunter. Everything about this 4.62m outfit oozes class. It gets a wraparound windscreen, bow rails, a relax anchor roller, carpet, under-floor storage, rear deck wells and plush pedestal-mount bucket seats. The helm dash is exceptionally functional for such a small craft. It has a vertical engine gauge display, a dedicated fascia takes a flush-mounted fish finder and there is still room for a marine radio and a switch panel. A swish sports steering wheel is stan dard and a GPS unit fits on a shelf behind the windscreen. The cuddy has upholstered bench seats and side shelves. Cockpit side pockets include horizontal fishing rod racks, aft grab rails are recessed into the gunwale coamings and removable corner cushions fit either side of a conventional outboard well. In a past test run, the outfit scooted along at a creditable 65km/h with a 75hp outboard. Cruise speed was an impressive and economical 35km/h, which takes a lot of beating. Packages of the boat, 75hp two-stroke Mercury outboard, deluxe trailer, fish finder, marine radio, navigation lights, bait board, EPIRB, offshore safety gear, bimini canopy with front clear panel and overhead rod racks cost $29,950. Thats what real estate investment banker Morgan Parker asked himself in 2009. He decided he was wealthy enough, so he quit his job as president of US-listed real estate company Taubman Asia and became a full-time philanthropist, creating the non-profit organisation Wheel2Wheel. Now he is taking on actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman with his own Long Way Round-style TV series, with the $200,000 raised going to charity. Parker recently finished a 25,000km charity solo ride on a BMW F 800 GS motorcycle through 10 countries to raise money and awareness for 10 Asian charities. The adventure will be the subject of a 10-part TV series to be screened on Discovery or NatGeo channels early next year and funded by Wheel2Wheel. What these charities really need is not money but awareness and hopefully these shows will raise awareness for their causes, he says. The charities include five environmental causes, three for childrens education, one for youth development and one for animal protection in Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Timor-Leste and Australia. Mr Parker says the TV series will be a mixture of Getaway with visits to tourist attractions, Top Gear but with motorbikes instead of cars and a reality show concentrating on his experiences with a short focus on the charities. He is already working on his next Wheel2Wheel charity project in 2013 to raise awareness of waste management in India. Information on www. wheel2wheel.tv. Italian design shapes newly-releasedNuda Husqvarnas Nuda 900 R features a bored-out version of the BMW F 800 engine By MARK HINCHLIFFE TheNuda has been revealed in all itsmuscular glorywith sharp angles, big air ducts and narrow rear end A NAME, some technical details and photographs of Husqvarnas street bike have been released. It will be called the Nuda 900 R and features a bored-out version of the BMW F 800s parallel twin. The project is one of the first benefits of the Swedish off-road bike companys takeover by BMW last year. The Italian-designed Nuda was first seen as the Mille3 concept at last years EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. Now the Nuda has been revealed in all its muscular glory with sharp angles, big air ducts and narrow rear end. However, it looks like Husky has retained its basic and uncomfortable supermotard seating. This certainly wont be much fun for touring. Its 900cc engine will have more than 75kW of power and 100Nm of torque with dry weight less than 175kg for a healthy power-to-weight ratio. Many internal components were also modified to improve the performance of the power and torque curve. Handling should be good with full-adjustable Swedish Ohlins suspension at the rear and full-adjustable Sachs forks. It should also stop well with monoblock radiallymounted four-piston Brembo brakes at the front. Australian importers, the Paul Feeney Group on the Gold Coast, expect it to reach our shores late next year. Prices are yet to be announced but it will compete with the BMW F 800 ($13,900-$15,800), KTM 990 Super Duke ($19,995) and Ducati Hypermotard ($15,990-$20,990). Group marketing manager Jorg Hoffmann says they hope to grab customers from the F 800, but if it is too competitive in price, we could expect BMW Group Australia might complain. The Nuda isnt the first street bike Husqvarna has produced, but in recent years the company has devoted its range to off-road machines and small-bore, singlecylinder supermotards.
