Territory hits straps HOCKEY By JESSWEBSTER Territorian Jeremy Hayward battles with Victorias Jayshan Randhawa in Perth yesterday Picture: JAMES WORSFOLD SCORE NT2 (Tim Boteler 4m FG; 17m FG) d VIC 1 (Adam Seccull 59m FG).THE Territory under-21s will play off for fifth place at the mens national championships after a gutsy 2-1 win yesterday over defending champion Victoria in Perth. Struggling to finish off good plays in attack all tournament, NT managed a 2-0 half-time lead after two goals to Tim Boteler. The first came in just the fourth minute when Tarrant HaamiJones and Dwayne Abbott combined to set up Boteler. He beat three defenders and slotted the ball home from close to the back line. The Territorians grew in confidence and in the 17th minute, another great pass by Abbott was collected by Boteler who teamed with Jeremy Kay to score. The Vics were rewarded for their efforts in the 58th minute and pressed for a draw, but the Territorys tough defence held strong once more. For once we finished off the hard work and the good play, coach Melissa Hall said. They were both really good team goals which was probably the most satisfying part of it. They had something like 10 corners (compared with none for NT) and once again our defence stood really strong. We came to this tournament determined to have one of our best ever finishes and we felt that we should have been in the top four, so now to finish fifth would be something that would be reflective of where the group is at. The Territory will play ACT in the playoff for fifth after they upset Tasmania 6-3, their first win of the tournament. Its going to be a fairly attacking game, Hall said. Sedan titles shaping as ultra close SPEEDY youngsters will take centre stage tonight at Lucas Oils Northline Speedway for the running of the Darwin Junior Sedan Titles. Recent form suggests there could be a number of contenders for the title with racing among the Junior Sedans closer than in previous years. Casey Hills in the snazzy pink and blue No. 111 car will start favourite, but will have James Dennis in his green No. 54 machine breathing down her neck along with Regi Whalan in the No. 4. This meeting will serve as a preview of the upcoming NT Junior Sedan Titles later in the season where a number of interstate revheads will arrive to contest the championships. Up to three of the triwheeled side cars are expected back tonight for a demonstration run as well as all of the other regular sections, except Street Stocks. Gates open at 4pm with racing starting at 5pm. Eskies are allowed but no glass. Adults are $15 for entry, children under 12 free and family passes are $35. F1 farce over FORMULA One has brought its technical civil war to an end, reverting to exhaust system rules in force at Valencia. Former champion Niki Lauda declared the episode the biggest farce ever in the sports history.
