Centralian Advocate, Tuesday, May 20, 2008 27 SPORT Liddy-Anne Brooks, Mackeena OKeefe, Chloe Tilbrook and Larissa McAllan are raising money to go to the national championships. Picture: HANNAH MILLERICK Fundraising for nationals Soccer Max Bennett THE regions top young soccer talent is raising money to help realise a dream of competing in the national championships. Junior soccer girls will be selling raffle tickets across Alice Springs to help with the cost of spending two weeks in Coffs Harbour for the under-15 National Youth Championships. Six girls from the region have been selected in the side who will play against the best female youth players in the country. Development officer Mark Wakeling said the tournament will provide the girls with great exposure to what is expected at the higher level. He said: The exposure to quality players is vital so they can see how high the standard of womens football is in Australia. The standard of womens football in Australia is of very high-quality, as shown in the womens World Cup. Wakeling said the girls have been active and dedi cated in raising money for the opportunity to travel to Coffs Harbour. He said: The girls did some fundraising so they could go to the NT trials in Darwin, so they are very committed and it shows on the pitch. Tickets will be available at Ross Park on Saturdays and Sundays from now until the tournament, which starts on June 30.
