The theme for the 2008/09 directory was Celebrating Australian Flavour. Rayleen Brown co-founder of indigenous catering service Kungkas Can Cook said she was honoured to be chosen for the cover (pictured). She started the cooking business eight years ago from the back of a trailer. Now Kungkas Can Cook has its own commercial kitchen, function rooms and professional catering equipment. They cater for government and private functions, festivals and other special events. Ms Brown is also passionate about helping young indigenous people find careers. She trained more than 100 students in indigenous cuisine as part of the Australian Innovation Festival and said it was important to educate people about Alice Springs diverse and versatile products. She said: Central Australia is unique its landscape, its people and its passion for giving things a go is very evident when you live here. Ms Brown is also a member of the Central Australian Food Group. White Pages group manager Melissa Reynolds said Ms Brown was a great example of someone who champions local produce and celebrates her regions local flavour for the benefit of their community. She said: Rayleen replaces members of Lhere Artepe on the cover of the NT directory, who were featured last year as part of the Champions of the Community cover theme. Ms Reynolds urged residents to recycle old phone books.
