RUGBY LEAGUE By JESSWEBSTER Francis Wapau PALMERSTON remains on top of the NT rugby league ladder after three rounds after a convincing 40-14 win over University at Richardson Park last night. The Raiders were tested early by a determined Sharks outfit, but mostly by their own undoing as too many turnovers let a number of chances go begging early on. It opened the door for the Sharks to capitalise, and after a few attempts winger Roscoe Frank crossed out wide from a Josh Hall pass to give University a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes. But their time in the spotlight was short-lived when some clever play from fiveeighth Daniel Keelan ended with a Brad Saunders try minutes later. It started up a purple patch for the Raiders as firstly Gethin Barden, followed by two more tries to Saunders, opened up a commanding lead. The Sharks showed great class and skills to set up winger Tyler Manley for a try on the half-time siren, but Palmerston had already built a healthy 24-8 lead. It took just five minutes into the second half for Palmerston to score through skipper Jeromie Edwards, and despite Sharks Troy Criddle bust ing his way over the line, the Raiders capped off a dominant match with the final two tries. Meanwhile, Brothers were too strong for Souths, running away with a 50-16 win. A barnstorming first half set up the large win for the reigning premiers, with Poncie Kurnoth, Daniel Good and Dwayne Mitchell scoring two tries. Francis Wapau was in everything for Souths, scoring two tries and two goals in a standout performance. The last match of the round has the Litchfield Bears hosting the Nightcliff Dragons at Freds Pass from 4pm today.
