The Commissioner for Public Employment provides leadership in the employment framework for the management and development of the Northern Territorys professional public sector. The role The Commissioner for Public Employment has two primary roles: As the Statutory Employer of public sector employees the Commissioner acts in a range of employment framework matters of the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS); and As Agency Chief Executive of the Offi ce of the Commissioner for Public Employment (OCPE) the Commissioner is responsible to the Minister for Public Employment for departmental capability and performance The Commissioner for Public Employment is required to provide strategic advice to the Minister for Public Employment and Government on employment practices, industrial relations and policies for the public sector, identify and respond to emerging issues and provide a strategic focus for collaborative partnerships with Chief Executives in developing a dynamic, highly skilled and responsive Public Sector. The person The successful applicant will be a proven leader with the capacity to develop innovative solutions and deliver outcomes in a rapidly changing and diverse environment. They will have: a successful track record in employment policy and practice including workforce planning, industrial relations, strategic human resource development and equity and diversity issues; high level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills; the ability to lead, motivate and develop staff; demonstrated success in complex, change management processes; and an extensive background in, and knowledge of, contemporary public sector management issues and trends.
