Department Health and Families144 Commenced development and implementation of a whole-of-government disability framework. Engaged in National Disability Agreement reform agenda. Attracted a new service provider to the Territory. Aged Care Assessment Teams Aged Care Assessment teams (ACAT) provide assessment services to frail aged people. Assessment identifies the needs of individuals, and the services most appropriate to meet their needs, and facilitates access to residential aged care when appropriate. Total assessments increased from 1141 in 2008-09 to 1165 in 2009-10. Guardianship orders are applied for, and when investigated can be made for either a community or a public guardian. The community guardian is an unpaid family member, carer etc. The Public Guardian is a Departmental employee appointed in the absence of anyone else being willing or able to take on the role. Number of new orders made appointing the Public Guardian 131 Number of review of orders appointing the Public Guardian 178 In 2009-10, 147 applications for Guardianship were received and 119 Guardianship orders were made by the Court. This constitutes an increase in the number of applications and the number of orders made, this trend is expected to continue.
