SZCZYPIORSKI Regional Director Alice Springs SCHEDULE Tanami Road between Stuart Highway and Western Australian Border Pursuant to s11A(4) of the Control of Roads Act, signage removal was authorised on *12.00 noon, Friday, 11 March 2011. 7/12 Petroleum Act 1984 (NT) Section 18 Native Title Act 1993 (CTH) Section 29 NOTICE OF PROPOSED GRANT OF AN EXPLORATION PERMIT (PETROLEUM) The Honourable Kon Vatskalis MLA, the Northern Territory Minister for Primary Industry, Fisheries & Resources, c/- Department of Resources, GPO Box 3000 DARWIN, NT 0801, hereby gives notice in accordance with section 18 of the Petroleum Act (Northern Territory) and section 29 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Commonwealth) that applications has been made for, and the Minister intends to grant, Exploration Permits (Petroleum) (Permit) under Division 2 of Part ll of the Petroleum Act (NT) as follows. Application to which this notice applies: Nature of act(s): The grant of a permit under the Petroleum Act, gives the person to whom it is granted the exclusive right, for a term of up to 5 years, to explore for petroleum and to carry on such operations and execute such works as are necessary for that purpose in the area covered by the permit including (but not limited to) use of machinery and equipment for carrying out works, removal of material for testing, use of water resources for domestic use and to seek renewals. A permit may be renewed no more than twice. If petroleum is discovered in a Permit area, production licences and/or retention licences may subsequently be granted. Native Title Parties: Any person who is, or becomes a "native title party" within the meaning of the Native Title Act is entitled to the negotiation and/or procedural rights provided in Part 2, Division 3, Subdivision P of the Native Title Act. Under section 30 of the Native Title Act, persons have until 3 months after the notification day to take certain steps to become native title parties in relation to this notice. Objections under Section 19 of the Petroleum Act: Pursuant to section 19 of the Petroleum Act, a person who has an estate or interest in relation to land compromised in, or land contiguous with land comprised in, an area covered by the proposed grant may, within two (2) months after the notification day, lodge in writing an objection to the proposed grant. Such objection may be lodged at the Office of the Minister for Mines and Energy, c/- Department of Resources, Centrepoint Building, 40-50 Smith Street Mall, Darwin NT 0800 or GPO Box 3000, Darwin NT 0801. Notification Day: For the purposes of section 29(4) of the NTA the notification day is 23 March 2011.
