The flight is included in a raft of new services by the budget carrier that will boost seat numbers by 20 per cent. Also included in the additions are extra services between Sydney and Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, and Sydney and the Sunshine Coast. Managing Director Tiger Airways Australia, Cr awford Rix, said it was an exciting time for the airline. The new season schedule not only represents the largest number of seats and destinations that we have ever operated, it also features extra (services) on a number of popular routes, he said. As the only major domestic low fare airline operating on the MelbourneAlice Springs route, weve also adjusted our new season schedule to cater for increased demand. The flights will begin at the start of April. Nominate for polls now A PUBLIC declaration of nominations and the draw for ballot paper positions will be held in Alice Springs, Katherine and Jabiru from tomorrow at 1pm. Nominations close at noon for an alderman vacancy in both Alice Springs and Katherine town councils. There is one councillor vacancy in the Akityarre Ward (Central Desert Shire), Nyirranggulung Ward (Roper Gulf Shire) and Gunbalanya Ward (West Arnhem Shire); and two councillor vacancies in the Thamarrurr/Pindi Pindi Ward (Victoria Daly Shire). Racer hit, but council wont pay up By MEAGAN DILLON Russell Bowens drag car was badly damaged when an allegedly drunk council worker drove into it AN ALICE Springs man is out of pocket $60,000 after an allegedly drunk worker crashed a council car into his dragster. Russell Bowen, 38, said he was towing the expensive speed car on a trailer into his Kurrajong Drive driveway when the council vehicle came down a 300m straight and hit it. Police said the council worker blew 0.101 per cent. He was investigated and dismissed from work for serious misconduct. Alice Springs Town Council refused to foot the bill as the staff member was intoxicated and therefore driving the vehicle unauthorised. Chief executive officer Rex Mooney said council acted on the advice of its insurance company. Council is not responsible for the damage, the individual is, he said. (But) council regrets the damage and inconvenience to those involved caused by the unauthorised misuse of a council vehicle. The incident on May 9 last year cost Mr Bowen $60,000 and thousands of hours worth of labour. How can the council get away with this? he said. The council has been unhelpful. Mr Bowen said if council had given the worker one of its cars for the weekend, it should be responsible for anything that happened.
