An investigation diamond drilling program was initiated by Peter Jolly 1986 in order to study variations of lithology within the Mereenie Sandstone and Hermannsburg Sandstone along their strike lengths through the Roe Creek Bore field. It was concluded that prior to present and future productions bore drilling, a diamond drill core program must be included at the investigation stage. This conclusion came from an interpretation of the core results obtained from the first two diamond drill holes Rn15020 and RN15021. A revaluation of previous drilling results, also supported this conclusion. The core results were used to assist with the sitting, drilling and construction design of the new production bores in the bore field area.
