RATIONALE Ac"TD Cmi!-l.ENTS UPSTREAN NORA>.-.DA:- This is located on .'\.ray Creek which is a small tributary of Koongarra Creek. It is used as a measure of \vater quality before Koongarra Creek flows through the Noranda project site. Flow is present at least 8-10 months of the year, and presumably the creek is fed by groundwater and drains into surficial sands~ This site was first sampled by i'i'D ES in November, 1978 as recommended by the 1978 Jabiru Workshop. It was not sampled by WRB or AAEC. The gauge board was installed in Janua~J, 1973. NOURL~~GIE ROCK:- This site is on Koonaarra Creek, in Sight of Nourlangie Rock and is just dm~nstream of the Denison SML. It indicates water quality immediately downstream of the site. As Koongarra Creek is very small, water is present only 4-6 months of the year. This site was first sampled by WD ES in January, 1979 (first flow), as reco~~ended by the 1978 Jabiru \lorkshop. It .vas not sampled regularly by WRB. The gauging station was established in March, 1977. Some .1\.AEC sa~ples were taken at the site. JIM JIM ROAD CROSSING - NOURLANGIE CREEK:- This site is well downstream of the site planned by Denison for mining and concentration. Both Koongarra Creek and Hickey Creek drain into Nourlangie Creek upstream of this point. The site may thus be used to indicate pollution from the Koongarra site. Water is present for 8-9 months of the year, but water is flmving only 6-7 months of the year. This site was first sampled by 1'/D ES in December, 1978. It was sampled irregularly by WRB from April, 1972 to June, 1977. The gauging station was established in November, 1960. Some AAEC samples were taken at this site.
