We feel that this objective could best be achieved by attaching to the staff of the Supervising Scientist, a scie~tific statistician who co~ld also carry out the statistical analyses required in other project areas. In view of the high cost of cheoical analyses it is esse~tial that this exercise be co~pleted as soon as possible with a view to reducing the total number of analyses proposed as part of this progran. It cannot be too strongly stressed that this prog~a~ is basic to most o: ~he othe~ st~dv nroc~a~s and must . - ~ be given highest priority wit~ a view to initiating sampling before the 1978-79 ~et season.
