I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I 11 Mr. Clark Has anybody in the room had any experience with fires during flooding? Mr. Wood Footage that I have seen on the news and in films show houses on fire surrounded by flood waters. supt. Ilett Most flood films I have seen, the houses are burning. Whether it is because the power was on and a short caused the fire or what I don't know. Mr. Ogden It may be a possibility in the overhead areas caused by arcing of overhead power lines. Mr. Clark What about lines falling into the flood waters? Is it going to cause a problem? .!:Ir. Ogden Theoretically no because of the safety protection installed to cut power. Mr. paige Any further comments on assistance? we were to call in people from outside the town, from Darwin or interstate? Mr. Wood It would depend on the magnitude. Mr. Black Right, well, if would they come You would have to exhaust your own supplies before calling on N.D.O. or any other external sources. Mr. Wood As stated in the Act, a State of Emergency would require support from "Darwin;' a State of Disaster would require interstate/ commonwealth support. Mr. Black You have got personnel support from the goal if required. Supt. Ilett What sort of equipment is available through the town, from say Transport and Works? Plant has been handed to private contracts. Is there someone who looks at those resources? Mr. Wood Most are identified in the Region 5 plan, but a concise chart will be drawn up with all community resources on it.
