Discussion took place and the planning committee resolved that an invitation be extended to Mr. Gargon to speak at the next meeting of the Region Counter Disaster Planning Committee - Region 5, on the issues of Flood Plain Management in preference to further correspondence, because of the delicate nature of the issue under address. 14. Action. The Executive Officer, through the Region Counter Disaster Planning Committee - Region 5 is to extend an invitation to Mr. Gargon, Assistant Secretary South to attend the next meeting of the Region Counter Disaster Planning Committee Region 5. (see attached Annex 2, letter to Assistant Secretary South) IS. In reference to minutes of previous meeting, page 6 paragraph 26, Mr. Black is to advise the Region Counter Disaster Planning Committee - Region 5 of further developments concerning drought. 16. Mr. Black referred the answer to Mr. Freyling, as a representative of Department of Mines and Energy, Water Resources Division who are investigating water supply on behalf of the Department of Community Development. 17. Mr. Freyling advised the planning committee that the Department of Mines and Energy, Water Resources Division had been requested by Mr. Black to provide information on the direct and indirect affects of drought, particularly the isolated communities of the southern region. 18. Mr. Freyling discussed the actions being taken to address this issue. 19. After discussion, the planning committee agreed that the Department of Mines and Energy, Water Resources Division, Water Needs committee were responsible for the day to day requirements of the communities in question. However, the Region Counter Disaster Planning Committee - Region 5 would become inVOlved if a co-ordinated counter disaster response were required. Social/Ecological Study of Flooding 20. The Chairman requested members to present the information gathered on the social/ecological affects of flooding at Alice Springs, to the planning committee and Messrs Freyling and Paige.
