Associated Vegetation types: On these plateaux surfaces, Eucalyptus ferruginea low openwoodland is found toward the centre and Edichromophioia open-woodland (49) occurs nearer the escarpment edge. In some areas Ebrevifoiia open-woodland with tall tussock grassland may also occur. Community 53 E herbertiana mid-high open-woodland with Plectrachne pungens hummock grassland, Chrysopogon fallax tussock grassland understorey. Structural formula(Specht): MllLl H3/G3 Eucalyptus herbertiana and Eucalyptus sp. are dominant or co-dominant in the upper layer. Small trees are characteristic of the middle layer and include Erythrophleum chlorostachys, Eucalyptus clavigera, Terminalia canescens and Owenia vemicosa. The ground layer is generally a hummock grassland with Plectrachne pungens commonly occurring. Tussock grasses such as Chrysopogon fallax and Themeda triandra may also occur. Other common Species in Decreasing % Frequency: Upper stratum-(l 00%) Owenia vemicosa Middle stratum-(50%) Buchanania obovata, Grevillea decurrens. Slopes 2-5. Bare rock generally 20% of plot. Soils are skeletal sands and gravels. AsSOCiated Vegetation types: Found on mesa rims between the main plateaux communities of Eucalyptus dichromophloia/E.miniata open-woodlands and the E brevifolia open-woodlands on the side-slopes. May also contain elements of the dry monsoon forests (community 8). 67
