7 Climate The region lies in the wet/dry monsoonal tropics, with a long dry season between May and October, and a wet season from November to April. An average of 1150mm of rain falls during the wet season. The driest months of the year are July and August. The catchment experiences a temperature range of 20-36 degrees Celsius. The variation in rainfall during the year and from year to year can be seen from the average monthly rainfall and annual rainfall for Oenpelli, which is shown in Figures 3 and 4. Highest temperatures are recorded in October and November, when the mean daily maximum approaches 36C. Evaporation is high, over 2200 mm per year, with monthly evaporation exceeding monthly rainfall throughout the dry season.
