Another matter which needs to be discussed "ilh Minda;,a ls software flexibilIty for allowing dlfferenl types of transducer (e.g. presure, temperature. flow and possibly barometric) to plug into the logger at dlfferent tJmes. In more complex pump test situations where there are observation bores further afield it ls suggested that Wesldata submersible loggers be used. These have the advantage that they are cheap; thls ls a big advantage if there are many observation bores. They have the disadvantage that logging must be halted before downloading can take place. but. in the course of a pump test. It may be more lmportant that the response of the pumped and close observation bores be closely monltored and intermittently plotted than that of the observation bores; it should be noted however that it is not dlfficult to halt. download. and then restart Westdata loggers. Another disadvantage is that. with the present state of \Vestdata eqUipment, the 891 field terminal cannot be used to start and stop lOgging and gather data. I suggest that. as it has been promised that this ls about to be changed. West data be asked to include this change in any eqUipment they supply us. It would also be worth,vhile encouraging them to speed up development of the promised hand-held unit for mOnitming status and latest transducer reading of the downhole loggers. For temperature and water quality monitoring it is suggested that a Westdata multichannel logger be employed, preferably the soon to be developed four channel logger. The reasons for this are (1) it would interface with the cheap Westdata temperature and conductivity probes. WI these loggers are L'1e.xpensive. and (iii) three brands of logger on the one Site may present disadvantages in tern1S of user tratning. software consinlction and manufacturer back up. Some s1Jitable container for the logger incorporating connection plugs may have to be constructed. Another pOSSibility which Is wori h considering is to allow a Westdata logger to lnterface wtth a frequency output flowmeter; this could be either a dedicated Single channel unit or the same one thal is bein;< used to record water temperature and conductivity. A significant cost redudion in many types of the flowmeter can be achieved if a current output is not reqUired and a pulse output is provided instead. For example. the Signet RotorX now sensing element could be used instead of the 8500. or a Kent 3000R wouid not require a rate-of now meter. In t.hese cases the flowmeter output could be frequency di,;ded to a level
