Technical Report WRD91058 Viewed at 15:07:51 on 29/07/2010 Page 2 of 107. SYNOPSIS In August 1990 a groundwater resource evaluation project was commenced with the aim of developing a reliable water supply for the community of Baniyala. The need for the project arose after three out of four previous attempts to secure a groundwater supply for the then outstation had failed due to bore construction problems. With the growth of the outstation into an emerging community centre it was recognized that the reliability of the water supply must be secured. The result-of the groundwater resource evaluation project was the drilling and construction of two new production bores intersecting an aquifer developed in Cretaceous quartz sandstone, each capable of supplying 5 Lis. Because of corrosive water in the region, inert ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) bore casing was used. The sustainable yield of the resource is estimated to be 5 Lis or 430 m3/day.
