HYDROGEOLOGY Regional geology is covered by the 1 100 000 Series Map Geology of the Edith River Region and explanatory notes (Needam and Stuart-Smith, 1989). Geological associated The area is underlain by rocks of the Early Proterozoic El Sherana Group, consisting of rocks of the Tollis Formation. Locally, the Tollis Formation consists of 'interbedded greywacke, pink tuffaceous greywacke, siltstone, pale green argillite and shale'. Previous exploration for groundwater in the Tollis formation was conducted approximately 10~m north-east of the outstation. Nine bores were drilled and water supplies between 1.5 and lOLls were obtained in shale at various depths associated with zones of extensive fracturing and jointing.
