16 To the best of our knowledge, these are the only known successful eradication sites for parthenium weed in Australia and were largely successful because of the early detection, containment, control and monitoring activities undertaken. Follow up inspections of the Tennant Creek infestation have identified new seedlings which have been chemically treated. A broader survey of the stockyard grounds has been undertaken and the infestation appears to be limited to a small number of yards. Parthenium weed requires sufficient rain to enable germination. Inspections and monitoring of the surrounding areas will continue. WHAT CAN YOU DO? BE AWARE: identification and early detection is essential of isolated outbreaks take precautions with new stock introductions employ hygiene protocols when transporting vehicles and machinery Young Parthenium plant in the stockyards
