Budding Bowyers at Batchelor A keen group of budding archers lined up on the Archery range at the Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre for the first Come and Try day held on Saturday 18th September. The day was organised by Archery Northern Territory, Coomalie Group (ANT, CG) to give locals the opportunity to try the exciting sport of target archery. This is the style of Archery included in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Instructional talks on range safety, equipment and techniques led the way for archers to progress into the hands on practical activities with coaching from the ANT, CG and Hayden, trainee instructor with the Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre. All participants were supplied with Come and Try books generously provided by Archery Australia, who are the national organisation for this format of archery. In all, 15 enthusiastic archers, ranging from 6 years old to 60+ years young participated. Participants ranged from those that had always wanted to have a go to those who were reacquainting themselves with skills obtained in years gone by. By the end of the two hour session the level of competency gained had the archers consistently hitting the mark. This event is hoped to be a prelude to the formation of a regional club in our area. Coomalie Community Government Council has been very supportive of this endeavour and has offered the group the use of the Batchelor Oval to hold regular activities on, in the near future. This very successful day was made possible through the support offered from Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre who made their facilities available for the event, Archery Australia for the educational material and national support provided and Coomalie Community Government Council for supporting activities within the Coomalie Region. Last but certainly not least, thanks to the volunteers who gave up their time to organise this event, Hailey Francis ANT, CG, Cody Muirhead ANT, CG, and Hayden from the Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre, these people proved to be fantastic range officers and coaches. Thank you all. Watch your local notice board for the next meet or email archerynt@hotmail.com or phone Russell Muirhead ANT, CG 0417869140 mailto:archerynt@hotmail.com
