This Week @ LGANT Issue 11: 02 July 2010 ALGWAWomeninLocalGovernmentDinner LGANTisorganisinganeveningfunction,incorporatingameal,speakersandnetworking activitiesappropriatetoIndigenousfemaleparticipantsandinvitingattendancefromall womenwhoarecurrentrepresentativesandleadersinlocalgovernmentintheNorthern Territory.ThefunctionwilldirectlyfollowtheLGANTannualgeneralmeeting(AGM)in November2010andwillcapitaliseontheparticipationandpublicattentionthatwillcome fromholdingthetwoeventsatasimilartime.Theeventwillfocusonelectedindigenous womencouncillorsandmayorstocelebrateandpromotetheirachievements,particularly forthosememberselectedintheinauguralshireelectionstwoyearsbefore.Thiseventwill formpartoftheNorthernTerritorycontributiontotheYearofWomeninLocal Government.Furtherinformationwillbeavailableoncethevenueisconfirmed. LocalGovernmentConstitutionalReform TheAustralianLocalGovernmentAssociationisworkingtoachievetheinclusionoflocal governmentintheAustralianConstitution.Thecampaigniscurrentlyfocusedon persuadingtheAustralianGovernment,theOppositionandMinorPartiesthata referendumshouldbeheldtoachievethisimportantreform.
