The FJ Cruiser, originally planned to join the boxy Rukus in showrooms this year, is not com ing until the first quarter of next year. The delay is caused by an upcoming update of the FJ, which is focussed on the USA. There might have been talk about this year, but its now in its facelift phase at the moment in the USA. It picks up some changes, mostly interior, Toyota spokesman Mike Breen said. Were waiting for the facelift model. That means it will be in the first quarter of next year. The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries figures show the market is up by more than 82,000 units, with SUVs remaining the market leader in growth terms. They were holding a 30 per cent growth rate in a market growing at 15 per cent overall. Rental and private buyers lead the increases so far this year, although last month saw private buying up by 20 per cent with a corresponding drop in rental fleet purchases. The Commodore has held on to top spot for July and the year so far, with almost every main segment recording sales growth for last month and the year so far. The year-to-date 2010 market of 613,544 vehicles is running 15.6 per cent ahead of the same period last year, with last months figure of 82,376 ahead July 2009 by more than 7000 vehicles. Holden managing director Mike Devereux was pleased with the VE Commodore runout. We had a great month, the great thing is that its five or six years old but its still a goodlooking vehicle that sells well. Im happy with where we are in terms of the inventory and the way the dealers are selling the old model and then well ramp with the new one here. Mr Devereux also said the dealers were excited about VEII, which he expects will change the way Australians use cars, but refused to be drawn on details of the new model. The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries chief executive Andrew McKellar says strong private demand and continued interest in SUVs helped record another solid month of vehicle sales. These figures provide further evidence that sales to private customers continue to increase strongly recording a 20 per cent rise compared to this time last year, he said. There is a proliferation of new models on the market at the moment that buyers are finding attractive, particularly in the SUV range. The on-going SUV interest has Toyota revising its 2010 sales forecast past the 200,000 mark, which would give the Japanese brand its seventh straight year beyond that tally. Toyota divisional sales manager John Roca said the figures showed Australian motorists were voting Toyota with their wallets. The market returned to six figures in the financial year ended June 30 and sales in July were higher than the rate needed to repeat the effort for the calendar year, he said.
