The action-filled, dusty two-night spectacle at the Katherine showgrounds did not only feature ReefnBeef, a well-known former Australian bucking bull of the year, but for the first time ill-tempered miniature ponies were bucked out of the chute gates. The little beasts with an amazing agility and bucking ability had one young wannabe cowboy after another biting the dust and cheered on by the crowd stole the limelight from the number one rodeo event, the open bull ride. Kel Hughes, of Katherine, said the cranky bucking broncos were the highlight of the show. They are just too funny to watch, a great event for rodeo fans, but also for people who dont get the real kick from the bucking bulls. And its a great addition to all the other animal events Katherine show is so well-known and loved for. The two-day rodeo event was part of the annual Katherine show, which celebrated its 45th anniversary this year and drew one of the biggest crowds ever with almost 19,000 people coming through the gates.
