Fabregas will miss the rest of the season after scans showed he has a hairline fracture of his right fibula, but reports in England on Friday suggested the Spain midfielder may already have had the injury before Wednesdays match. The 22-year-old needed a late fitness test to prove his fitness for the 2-2 Champions League quarterfinal draw after sustaining heavy bruising on his leg and knee following a fierce challenge from Birminghams Craig Gardner last weekend. Fabregas limped away from the Emirates Stadium on crutches with an injury in exactly the same place after a collision with Carles Puyol towards the end of the European tie. But Wenger stressed there had been no risks taken with Fabregas and the Gunners boss insisted his star player suffered the injury, which will keep him out for six weeks, in the clash with Puyol. There were some suggestions that he played with a broken bone that is not true, Wenger said. We had two independent doctors with X-rays who clarified the bone was perfectly okay, a bruised bone, but not broken before the Barcelona game. I am 100 per cent confident and I checked that this morning with our medical team. There is no doubt about that. Medically we were clear. DBA executive officer Allan Hilzinger has just returned from a highly successful pre-planning trip to Shanghai. DBA teams will tour there in August at the request of the Northern Territory Government, which wants to promote the NT through sport. While in Shanghai, Hilzinger and DBA financial controller Murray Brown, as well as top-level public servants from the NT Chief Ministers Department, met with Shanghai Sports Federation director of competitions Cui Yining. The Shanghai Sports Federation controls all sport in Shanghai and he gave us his full support, Hilzinger said. We will send them a proposed itinerary and they will fill in the blanks. Hilzinger said the DBA already had some games lined up, including a match against former NBA star Yao Mings Shanghai Sharks development squad for the DBA under-20 mens side. The mens side will also line up against top 10 Shanghai schools No. 54 High School and Nanyang High School. The under-23 womens team will play matches against the top two high schools in Shanghai Xiang-Ning and Jianping high schools. Both DBA teams will be playing six games each on the tour, he said. We will also visit the World Expo, which will be fabulous. Hilzinger said there were still spots open on the womens team. The boys team was full but anyone interested in putting their name down as a reserve for the tour from August 20-29 should contact the DBA. As part of its push into Asia, the DBA also plans to send under-20 sides to Surabaya in October for matches against sides in Indonesias biggest junior basketball league. The DBA All-Stars have also been invited back to Surabaya to defend their International Challenge Cup title in December. The DBA All-Star team has competed in the past three Brunei Cups in Bandar Seri Begawan. In 2007, 130 DBA players toured China and Singapore, returning with 100 players in 2008. Also in 2008, the DBA played matches against professional side the Singapore Slingers in Darwin and Singapore. Last year it toured Vietnam and Indonesia. France star's season over LONDON: France defender William Gallas is expected to miss the rest of the season with a calf injury, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said on Friday. Gallas suffered a recurrence of the calf problem which had kept him out for six weeks during the first half of Wednesdays 2-2 Champions League draw against Barcelona. Wenger admitted the 32-year-old, who is off contract at the end of the campaign, is now likely to be sidelined for up to five weeks, meaning he would be unable to play for the Gunners again this term. The former Chelsea centreback, who was playing in his first match since February, should still be fit to feature for his country at the World Cup, but Wenger doesnt expect him back for Arsenal before the end of the season. Gallas is longer than three weeks, I would say five weeks, Wenger said. It was a gamble which did not pay off and was a mistake, yes. He could be back maybe quicker, but I just give myself five weeks because three weeks is a minimum and we will have to be a bit more cautious with him. Wenger, who is already without captain Cesc Fabregas for the rest of the season, expects Russian midfielder Andrey Arshavin, who also has a calf injury, to be available to face Manchester City on April 24. DEALING WITH PAIN: Didier Drogba is expected to go under the knife at the end of the season Surgery likely for Drogba LONDON: Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba could need surgery before the World Cup to cure a long-term groin problem. Drogba was rested for last weekends 7-1 win over Aston Villa because he has been suffering from the injury for some time and Ancelotti admits he could need a minor o p e r a t i o n b e f o r e playing for his country in South Africa. D e s p i t e p l a y i n g t h r o u g h t h e p a i n barrier at times, Drogba has still scored 30 goals this season. Drogba has been living with this problem for three or four months but it is not a big problem, Ancelotti said. Sometimes he has problems after the game but during the week he doesnt have any difficulty. He will not need surgery now and if he needs to have an operation at the end of the season he will be ready in seven days because it will be a very little surgery but I dont know if he will need to have that surgery. He was a little bit tired before the last game against Aston Villa so I didnt want to take the risk to put him on the pitch but now he is fit and he has to play.
