The Essington School Darwin 6 Music News Patricia Curry and Maslin Armitage opened the Middle School Assembly last week. The Middle School will now be enjoying music items at Assembly as much as the Junior School are. Thanks to Samuel Roussos and Dexter Lee for their keyboard performances at the Junior School Assembly. Lara DeRubeis, Kristin Smith and April Pratt have commenced voice lessons and we hope they enjoy being part of our music program. We enjoyed hearing the following students at our Middle School Concert last Friday lunchtime: McLeod Atkinson, Kieran Caraher, Eleni Glynatsis, Yianni Glynatsis, Kate Huntingford, Kiara Musco, Michael Pham, Andrea Simpson, Kristin Smith and Oliver Zagorski. We look forward to more of these throughout the year. Our Junior School choir excelled at the Harmony Day Concert at the Philipino Community Centre last Saturday night. Many thanks to Mrs Watson for preparing them so well and to Digby Barrow for accompanying the choir. The children enjoyed the evening very much. We also congratulate Monique Smith for her performance with the Irish dancing troupe on the night. Jill Kuhn Music Director Library Notices Thank you to Ms Marijana's Transition class and Ms Chiera's Year 1 class for their beautiful colouring-in of an assortment of Beatrix Potter pictures. The Library windows look fantastic in time for Easter. Did you know that Beatrix Potter was the first person to 'patent' a toy? The character she selected was the mischievous Peter Rabbit! Making him the oldest licensed character. Book Club is in! Please see me at the Library to collect your order. To celebrate Easter we are having Craft activities on Friday 26th and Monday 29th March at Junior School lunch time. Hop along and have some fun with Miss Sarah, Miss Angela and I! Kathy Ryan Librarian After School Care Notices Well, what a busy term we have had so far. We have welcomed some new students and sadly said farewell to others. At present we are looking at Easter and the children are making craft activities relating to this topic. If you are interested in seeing some of our art work we have a weekly display on the wall opposite the ASC office. ASC is fundraising for new equipment and games with ice-cups on sale for 50c each at the Preschool. We also have a Guess the Number of Eggs raffle which is also located in the Preschool. Please come and lend your support. The ASC students are very keen on getting a pretend hair dressing salon up and running. If anyone has any unused items that could help us out that would be greatly appreciated, such as aprons, brushes, mirrors etc. Please remember that if you are requiring emergency care for ASC you will need to contact either Karen Williams in the Front Office or e-mail me on nerida.cooper@essington.nt.edu.au in order to find out if a position is available. Over the Christmas holidays a DVD, Jungle Book, has gone missing. It is one of our staff members personal DVDs which the staff member bought in as a special favor. If anyone has seen or may know of its whereabouts could you please contact Nerida on 8985 0112. If you require Vacation Care for the Mid-Term Break, please see Karen or Arlee at the Front Office as soon as possible. We have a very exciting and fun filled holiday program planned. Please note that the program will run from Tuesday April 6th until Friday April 9th. If you have any queries, concerns or questions relating to After School Care or Vacation Care please do not hesitate to contact me on phone: 89850112 or e-mail: nerida.cooper@essington.nt.edu.au and I will get back to you. Thank you and we hope you have a wonderful and safe Easter and lovely holiday break. Nerida Cooper and the After School Care staff Sports Notices Darwin to Perisher in a Day Fun Run/Walk We had a successful day on Friday 19th March with all year levels taking part in our annual Fun Run. Thanks to Megan Brown, Toskiki Watanabe and Kyoko Watanabe who worked incredibly hard flipping sausages and cooking up a storm in our food area for the Fun Run. Thanks also to Robbie and Andres who tried their hardest to keep our Ice Supplies going. Thank you to Zac Ramjan and Shaun Theiber for all their hard work on Friday. Nearly $2000 dollars was raised at the BBQ, Shaved Ice and drink area. We also had several reliable and smiling Year 8/9/10 students who assisted on Friday selling drinks, food and shaved ice. This included Nakita Pollock, Ari Taulelei, Courtney Miller, Sabrina Wills, Theresa Thorpe, Victoria Lang, Zoe Woods, Paris Stapleton, Tamika Mayo, Tala Innes, Maddison Brown and Caroline Whalen.
