Harley has produced a great-looking machine at a truly competitive price $13,350 ride away, if youre quick. It will appeal to a lot of people, be they Harley fans or the increasing numbers of mums and dads who want to ride, but not at warp speed. Its the minimalist design of the Iron 883 that grabs your attention. But the com mitment to the look has come at the expense of some practicality. The 12.5-litre teardrop shaped fuel tank looks svelte on the bike, but it limits your range to about 200km. The airbox on the ride side of the bike also takes some getting used to, given it presses on your thigh every time you throw a leg over. Its not uncomfortable, but it does feel awkward the first few rides. The Iron 883 is an affordable way to earn membership to the Harley family. It pumps along OK and still has the distinctive V-twin beat. A problem can be the lack of a pillion seat, but not to those who prefer to do their riding solo or you can pay a visit to the accessories list. AT A GLANCE HARLEY-DAVIDSON IRON 883 PRICE: $13,350 ride away ENGINE: 883cc air-cooled Evolution V-twin TORQUE: 70Nm at 3750 revs TRANSMISSION: Five speed, chain-drive FUEL TANK: 12.5 litres FUEL USE: 5.6 litres/ 100km WEIGHT: 260kg SEAT HEIGHT: 735mm
