Lefoe holds the aces at Pioneer Park ByGREGORMACTAGGART STRENGTH in depth has been the instrumental factor behind reigning Alice Springs premiership trainer Lisa Lefoes title defence. Lefoe, who secured the crown for the first time last season, holds a commanding break atop the 20092010 standings. Going into todays five-race program at Pioneer Park where she will saddle up nine runners, Lefoe leads nearest rival Ken Rogerson by five winners. While shes prepared more runners (59) of any Red Centre trainer this season, Lefoes strike-rate is formidable, headlined by 13 winners at an average of 22 per cent. With three of her team engaged, the Australia Day Handicap (1000m) may prove the race Lefoe will make the biggest impact today. Last-start winner Roslight (Garry Lefoe) rises 1.5kg for that success, but has never run a bad race in Alice with six placings (including two wins) and a fourth from his seven starts. Lefoe will also unveil debutant Descending Light, a four-year-old Perugino mare and Survived (Belinda Carlile), who drops back sharply in grade and weight thanks to the apprentices claim. Ted Wades Failonge, a horse going great guns and Sitar, finally living up to his promise, appear the two capable of spoiling Lefoe here. In addition to that triumvirate, Lefoe will launch two-pronged assaults in the Dave Douglas Tyre City Handicap (1100m) and the SDA Plumbing Handicap (1000m). Rowland Commander and Fasmar shape as the two best chances in those respective events. The meeting will be broadcast through Radio TAB 1242am and kicks-off with the first from 2.02pm. Black Caviar for Dubai JUST TOO GOOD: Luke Nolen pilots Black Caviar to Group 2 success in last nights Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley. Picture: NICOLE GARMISTON MELBOURNE: The $2.5 million Golden Shaheen on dirt in Dubai is a possible target for Black Caviar after the three-year-old was too good for her older rivals in last nights Group Two Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley. The exciting filly was expected to maintain her unbeaten record in the $200,000 1200m event her first attempt at weight-for-age and was sent out a $1.70 favourite after easing from her opening quote of $1.40. Jockey Luke Nolen allowed the Bel Esprit filly to sit just off the leader Here De Angels ($2.90) but when the pressure came on the home turn she raced clear and went on to score by 2 lengths with La Rocket ($51) 1 lengths away third. Royal Ida was fourth in the field of five. Im very happy. Its always a big relief to see them return and we thought she was going terrific but until you get them back on track you arent 100 per cent sure, Moody said. Hes no mug the second horse (Here De Angels). Hes a good, tough, old handicapper and just knowing how much improvement shes got in her and, coming back off that injury, I just wanted to see her come back and enjoy racing. The exciting thing is the level of improvement in her. Black Caviar had her spring campaign cut short when she was found to have torn a muscle in the chest when jumping awkwardly but still won the Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in September. She wore a barrier blanket for the first time last night and jumped well to claim her fifth straight victory. Moody said Marchs Golden Shaheen (1200m) in Dubai would come under consideration but not until after Black Caviar contests her first Group One race in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 13. It (Dubai) would be a challenge but lets get over the William Reid first, Moody said. Periduki looks goods at Morphettville THE Red Centre raiders loom as the best chances of continuing the Territory success in Adelaide today. As hes been for much of his 25-start career (11 wins and more than $200,000 in earnings), Periduki will be the headline act when he tackles the $41,000 Allan Scott Park Handicap (1000m). While the race also contains fellow Centralian dasher The Soldier, Periduki is expected to start a warm favourite on the back of his last-start success at the same venue on January 9. Renowned jockey Paul Denton, who partnered Periduki to that last start success, will again take the ride. The Soldier, who was the subject of strong backing when fifth in the same race Periduki won, has the services of in-form apprentice Libby Hopwood. Hopwoods claim ensures The Soldier meets Periduki 3kg better today, while the evergreen Taos Pleasure, is another familiar runner out to stop the Prince of Pioneer Park. Darwin-owned gallopers Shout Out Loud and Snow Bunny are rated live each-way contenders for the Adelaide Casino Handicap (1400m) and the out-of-form Hidden Assets also lines-up this afternoon.
