24 Northern Territory News, Monday, January 18, 2010 www.ntnews.com.au P U B : N T N E W S D A T E : 1 8 -J A N -2 0 1 0 P A G E : 2 4 C O L O R : C M Y K White gears up for a big year Australian Open Tennis SCTV, various times FROM the foxtrot to the burning rubber of the V8 Supercars and on to uncovering the best spray tan in town, Today Tonight host MatthewWhite describes his TV efforts of last year as amixed bag. After finally discovering light at the end of the tunnel following noisy home renovations and enjoying time by the beach with his wife Amanda and their daughters Taila, 7, andMason, 4,White (pictured) says hes starting the year with a bang by presenting tenniss grand slam event, the Australian Open inMelbourne. I am starting the year with a bang by commentating at the tennis, the 39-yearold says. The only downside of that this year is that Imissmy youngest daughters first day of school because it will be right in the middle of the tournament. I am also going tomiss a regulation game of cricket we have each Australia Day that has been going on formore than a decade nowwith schoolmates. I have sort of given up a couple of things to go down toMelbourne for the tennis. After a busy year, which included a dazzling performance onDancingWith The Stars, White took awell-earned break. We just flopped around after the year Ive had. I just wanted to sit around and do nothing and everything at the same time, he says, adding that his first year presenting Today Tonightwas a highlight. I am feeling really good actually. Its probably been the busiest year Ive ever had and thats been theway forme for the last three years. Every year has been busier than the year before and thats theway this one has turned out. I didnt know thatDancingWith The Starswas going to be a part of this year so that soaked up a good three or fourmonths and it was bloody full-on. When I look back I had Today Tonight, the V8s and the rugby Test at the start and I was doing this the other daywhen someone askedmewhat I had been doing all year I was rattling themall off andwas like OhGod I cant even remember things that Ive done now. But 2010 promises to be just as jampacked kicking off with his co-hosting role at the Australian Open alongside BruceMcAvaney. You cant ease your way back into it, he says. You are straight back into it and its a big event. Its a big way to start the year and thats what I love. There is nothing half-hearted about the tennis, its an international event, its massive and it involves the best of the best with loads ofmoney going into it. So, youve got to be on your game from theword go. ERINMCWHIRTER
