115 Appendix 4 Agreements The Department of Justice was party to a number of local, national and international agreements in place in 2005-06 including: Fines Recovery Unit (FRU) The FRU has agreements in place with the Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Alice Springs and Nhulunbuy Councils to recover monies from unpaid penalty infringement notices. It also has an agreement with Centrelink, Westpac and Australia Post to collect payments on its behalf. Consumer and Business Affairs (CABA) CABA is party to a cooperative agreement with the Motor Trades Association NT (MTA) to provide conciliation assistance to consumers when dealing with MTA members. CABA also has cooperative agreements with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australian Securities and Investment Commission in regard to exchange of customer details. Anti-Discrimination Commission The ADC is party to the national Play By The Rules Agreement, which relates to the appropriate conduct of participants, officials and spectators of sport. Legal Services Legal Services negotiated terms to the Extension Agreement with the Commonwealth for Juvenile Diversion and Aboriginal Interpreter Service Funding. The agreement provided a further one-year funding of these undertakings by the Commonwealth of Australia. NT Correctional Services A Supplementary Recurrent Assistance contract for the next quadrennium funding has been signed with the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST), for the delivery of education programs under the Federal Indigenous Education (Targeted Assistance) Act 2000. An Indigenous Education Agreement (NIELNS) has also been signed with DEST for the next quadrennium. A partnership agreement has been signed and funding provided through the Australians Working Together Grant 2006 for delivery of a Deckhands Course. The partnership is with Seafood and Maritime Industry Training. A partnership agreement has been signed and funding provided through the Australians Working Together Grant 2006 for delivery of a Crocodile Handling and Farming pilot project. The partnership is with the International College of Advanced Education/Myriad Training Group. An Agreement was signed with Charles Darwin University in February 2006 for complementary delivery of vocational training for both correctional centres. NTCS provides funding to the Northern Territory Council of Churches to provide chaplaincy services to prisoners. Prisoners Aid, a voluntary organisation, receives a small grant from NTCS to provide practical assistance to prisoners. Annual Report 2005 2006 / Appendicies
