41 Advises on IT contract terms and conditions and advice on aligning IT strategy with departmental business strategies in accordance with whole of government policies and standards; and Provides client focused solutions, information systems and technology that enables departmental business areas to achieve their business objectives and corporate governance obligations. Legal Services Overview Legal Services provides civil litigation, commercial, native title and policy services to Government, manages the outsourcing of selected legal services and provides an independent public prosecution service. Legal Services Achievements in 2005-06 Provided leadership, specialist legal expertise and input into major project teams. Developed policy initiatives in the portfolio of the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General through law reform and other activities that reflect the Governments priorities. (BSC 6) Commenced an extensive review of the services provided by in-house legal advisors in various Government agencies with a view to bringing all Government solicitors providing legal advice under the umbrella of the Solicitor for the NT. (BSC 9) Sought and obtained funding for additional solicitor positions for the expansion of the Litigation and Commercial Divisions of the Solicitor for the NT. (BSC 9) Obtained passage of the Youth Justice legislation and the first stage of the Criminal Code reforms. (BSC 6) Obtained passage of the Defamation Act 2006 completing uniformity of defamation law in Australia. Organised the repeal of 117 obsolete Acts including most of the remaining old South Australian Acts (Legislation Repeal Act 2005). Introduced the Anti Social Behaviour legislation and commenced the Anti Social Behaviour (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 2005 and the Alcohol Court Act. (BSC 5) Commenced the Partnership Amendment (Venture Capital Funds) Act and the Alcohol Court Act. Obtained passage of the Criminal Code Amendment (Criminal Responsibility Reform) Act 2005 as part of a major program to reform the structure of the criminal law of the Northern Territory. (BSC 6) Continued work for the enactment in the Northern Territory of the Model National Law dealing with the regulation of the legal profession. Substantially completed negotiations for a consent determination and complementary Indigenous Land Use Agreement in relation to native title claims over the town of Tennant Creek. Participated in the ongoing legislative and commercial development of the Darwin City Waterfront Project. Provided ongoing strategic and commercial advice and assistance for major projects such as the Alice Springs to Darwin Railway, the Desert Knowledge Australia Precinct and the Bulk Materials Infrastructure Project. Assisted in the negotiation of and drafted the Mt Todd Agreement. Provided advice to Government in relation to the McArthur River Mine. Drafted and negotiated an agreement between the Territory and DLNG Limited in relation to the future treatment of greenhouse gas emissions from the LNG Plant at Wickham Point.
