An Inventory of Darwin Region Lagoons 4 Figure 3. Examples for the definition of boundaries for different types of lagoons. The shoreline development index (DL) (Equation 1) was calculated for each lagoon (Cole 1983). DL relates to the closeness of the shape of a lagoon to a circle, which has a DL of 1.0.
