16 The Wagaitear, April 2009 from the quarterdeck with the Admiral A C R O S S T H E H A R B O U R Darwin Harbour tide times for April Family of feral pigs causing havoc on the eastern side of the estate are no laughing matter. Several youngsters have been hunting for them but with a large boar, two sows and lots of piglets, thats a very dangerous after-school activity. Theyre coming out of the swamp near the sports ground so keep clear until theyre either trapped or destroyed. Long-time larrikin Stem Edwards could be expected to mellow these days but it seems hes incorrigible as ever. So much so that a damsel at a Cullen Bay coffee shop complained to polliewaffler Dave Tollner about the attention she received from some bloke in a wheelchair. Sounds like she might be lucky Stem is in a wheelchair. You-beaut new recording system at the toy council suffered a dire technical problem at last months meeting. Battery-powered equipment just doesnt go too well unless someone remembers to recharge the batteries occasionally. There was an attempt to kick things back to life by plugging the system into a computer, but as council pharaoh Peter Clee admitted, Techno 101 was a fail. CEO Wally Lenyszyn promised to read the instructions before the next meting. Speaking of the pharaoh, he put paid to the Chinese whisper that a planned meeting between Wagait and Coomalie councils about extending boundaries to include unincorporated land was really about amalgamation. Peters response was: While my bum points to the ground thats not going to happen. The admiral gathers this means no and apologies to those who may have choked on their breakfast toast at any vision conjured up by Peters words. Anyone planning an outdoor activity on a Sunday should keep an eye out for the local fishing club posters. The last three or four club events have coincided with gusty winds, choppy seas, heavy rain or storms in the area. Sunday March 29 was no exception with most fi shos tossing in the towel early despite the early dry season conditions.
