The Log April 2002 page 5 The LogThe Log via email Would you like to receive The Log by email each month? Particularly relevant for members interstate or overseas. Send an email to: chilman@ozemail.com.au Hulls Spars Foils Sails Any parts of a laser Any condition We can collect. Contact Gary Martin, Brenda Carew or Mechelle Collins. LASERS WANTED We had a successful sign on day on 17th March, for Lasers that is, with 13 full members signing up to join the association. Boats We seem to have more people every day wanting to sail Lasers but boats are like hens teeth so if you have an old hull skulking in your yard or any stray spars or foils wed like to hear about it. Even if it wouldnt make a racing boat the association hopes to use donated parts to make up a training boat. Last month Colin Dibb, the World Masters Champion visited for three weeks so we had two weekends with a number of boats on the water. Colin did a mini on the water training session the first Saturday and the next week we had a good afternoon doing mini races organised by Doug. The Asian Pacific Championships The Asian Pacific Championships which are being held here next year in conjunction with the Arafura Games, seem to be sparking everyones interest in Lasers. We are to receive 40 charter boats from New South Wales and are hoping for 100 boats on the water. To help with the transport costs of these boats we need more Sponsorship so anyone who has any suggestions please contact us or the Arafura Committee. Also we are going to try to fit raffles in on public holidays whenever we can, like the one weve just had over Easter. Gary is off to Thailand on April 4th for this years Asian Pacifics, to compete and to promote next years championships .We wish him all the best, knowing hell do a good job both on and off the water. Sailing Anyone who is interested in trying out sailing a Laser please contact any of us, well take you for a little sail so you can gain your confidence. Well also be at the Come and Try Sailing Day on April 13th so approach us then if not before. For those who are more confident there is the Laser Challenge, (see separate notice) the first one starts on April 26th.
