Vice Commodore Page 2 The Log March r993 Commodore's Report t has always been difficult to give a glowing rcpon of the Club's activities at the first Quarterly General Meeting. There is very litde sailing ro ralk about, and usually depressing trading rcsults coming from the bar and bistro. This year is no diffrenr. The season starts in just six weeks, and we have a hug prcgramme. The first race is a night lace on Friday 16th Apdl. Mark your calendars now, as the time will fly! Now is the rime to work on your boat, find out what needs doing, and do it. The Vice Commodore and Race Committee have burnt the midnight oil ro finish the progran'rme, and the General Manager has been successful in getting sponsorship for every mce. There is every incentive to get ready and plan to win. OUTDSC ladies did well in the J24 comperirion, claining fourth place from nine staners. An excellent result when you realise the strength of the competition. Zanzibar, Graffiti, Raucous, etc from DSC continue to doninate the winners circle at the Dinah Beach wet season sedes. We are grateful that they n:n this series. Can we do something similar ard complimentary next wet? The drinks afterwards would be at the DSC of cou6e. Would a formal challenge to team .acing with Dinah Beach sailors attract any starteN? Taking part in the series has been satisfying, and certainly takes your mind off the problems elsewhere. MANTA has been given rhe blessing of your Management Committee to go ahead and make use of the land at Race Cowse Creek adjacent to Spot On Marine, for boat storage. They have promised to remain members of the Darwin Sailing CIub. The move to the new site is because the outer boat park is crammed full and too expensive for some pople. During the dry season their boats will be on Fannie Bay so ovenll therc will be litle change. For well known and often discussed rcasons the Bar and Bistro trade is below expectations. Your Flag Officers, the General Manager and Treasurcr are all acutely aware of the problem and are taking positive action to address
