ISSUE # 7 | AUGUST 2008 CADETSHIPS CONTINUED NATIONAL INDIGENOUS CADETSHIP PROJECT Are you an Indigenous person studying or planning to study for a diploma, advanced diploma or degree? Would you like to receive fi nancial assistance to complete your studies and receive paid work experience during the semester break? Why not apply for the Commonwealth funded National Indigenous Cadetship Project (NICP) with the Northern Territory Government (NTG). The cadetship offers: study allowance of $12,000 ($600 gross per fortnight) each year whilst you are studying full time; HELP fees paid on passed units; 12 weeks work placement each year at the Administration (AO2) level (approximately $1,300 gross per fortnight); $1,000 allowance for text books each year; and Ongoing employment on successful completion of your studies. *Please note, cadets are not eligible for Abstudy while on cadetship program. To be eligible for the NICP students must: be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; or be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he/she lives or has lived; and be an Australian citizen; and be enrolled for full-time study, or be intending to study full-time. There are cadetship opportunities across a range of disciplines and functions within the (NTG). Advertising for 2009 vacancies will occur in approximately October this year. For more information contact DCIS Employment Programs on 08 8999 3708 or email employmentprograms.dcis@nt.gov.au INDIGENOUS TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME (ITAS) With access to qualifi ed tutors and CDUs supportive study environment, the Indigneous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) is designed to help you get through your studies. Over Semester 1, 2008 the ITAS program supported students from Alice Springs, Armidale, Brisbane, Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Palmerston, Sydney and Tennant Creek. No matter where you live, we will try and fi nd a tutor for you in your region. Tutorial assistance will help you to: better understand what is expected of you in regard to your assignments help you manage your time and plan your study help you get the most out of your study experience to reach your full potential. ITAS Tertiary Tuition may be approved: for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are enrolled in a formal training program for an eligible students formal course of study for up to 2 hours per week per subject and up to 5 additional hours in total during exam preparation breaks.
