Darwin Public School, which was the origianl government school, growing in buildings and function on a site in Cavenagh Street, between Knuckey and Lindsay Streets, and extending later to McMinn Street through Frog Hollow. The Baobab (bottle) tree still stands in the Darwin Post Office car park (1994) with most of the buildings having been destroyed by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.,
